The entirety of the military relies on the Mass implants for many uses. A few examples would be for intel, for aim assist, and receiving dreams that stimulate the brain. This implant seemed to be very reliable and effective until the hijacking device breached it, causing it to glitch and therefore making it unreliable. When Stripe raised his concern about his Mass implant, the diagnostics and testing methods they used were not able to detect his Mass’ malfunction, which indicated that they were unreliable. As his implant kept malfunctioning, it caused him to lose his aim as well as sleep, which hindered his physical capabilities, further indicating his reliance on the implant. In addition to the military, the government heavily relies on the implants as well. For instance, when Stripe was becoming aggressive and considered quitting the military, Arquette took away his eyesight and showed him his memories of killing the roaches without the implant’s “filters.” Doing so convinces Stripe to stay in the military in order to forget about the pain he experienced. This shows that the government relies on using the implants to keep soldiers enlisted and controllable.
