MASS IMPLANT
A device that is developed to condition soldiers and to improve effectiveness in killing that is likely implanted in the brain. By controlling the senses and removing emotions from the soldiers. The implant allows soldiers to kill defenseless human beings without suffering from the severe psychological trauma associated. With the Mass implant, soldiers see “roaches” as monster deviants, hear their speech as monster screeches and lose their olfactory senses entirely. The Mass Implant vastly improves efficiency in the military in many ways, including intelligence, conditioning, and communications. The implant might be powered through an internal battery, thermal generators feeding off of body heat, or bio-electric power due to there being no external power cord or source seen from the soldiers. The MASS Implant is similar to augmented reality, but it is not realistic with current technology because other features of MASS, such as sense (hearing, sight, smell) control, do not exist yet in our real world. Relating technologies that share features with the MASS implant are listed below:
Sense control
Mass implant is able to control a soldiers senses including sight, hearing, smell, and possibly in touch.
Reality:
The Neuralink implant has been demonstrated to be able to read specific synapses firing and is planned on having the ability to not just read synaptic info, but write synaptic info via sending electro-chemical signals to the nervous system to act on the physical body. Could conceivably be used to control movement, it is also speculated by it's creators to be able to be used to bridge the information transfer gap between devices and people, making you symbiotic with an internal intelligence much like having another layer to your conscious mind [1].
Display feature
The most unique feature of the MASS implant is that any image can be directly displayed at a soldier's eyeline.
Reality:
Haptic suits such as the TESLASUIT (nothing to do with Tesla) for sensory feedback within a virtual setting. Similar to the control over Stripes senses by the MASS [2].
Augmented Reality headsets such as the Microsoft HoloLens, currently used primarily for business, laboratory, and industrial work. Allows you to change the way you see the environment around you, similar to the way Stripe saw the roaches differently [3].
Virtual Reality headsets like the Valve Index can completely change what you see, much like the implants ability to play back a completely different memory to Stripe [4].
MASS controller and terminal
The terminal that can control and monitor activities of each soldier is a computer. The psychologist is able to give a “very good” dream to Stripe through the terminal. The controller is a very small, flat portable device that the psychologist can also use to control soldiers. With the controller, he is able to turn off Stripe’s sight and replay his memory of killing "roaches" without filters. This is very similar to most systems in the modern world, where there is a terminal that has administrative access to the system, and a portable controller for convenience and easy function.
Target Acquisition
This technology is part of the mass implant used by the soldiers in their daily shooting training which provide aids with targeting and display a real-time shooting accuracy percentage displayed at soldiers’ eyeline.
Reality:
Many first -person shooter games have similar shooting analysis, but in real life too. MantisX is a product of a company called Mantis. It is a very small device that you can attach to rails of almost all firearms. It can be paired to phones and collect data and evaluate shooting performance [5].
Boomer
A mapping device that can be fired from a launcher and attached to a building wall. It generates sonic pulses to analyze and generate a 3D map of the structure. Boomer is connected to the MASS system because the 3D layout is directly displayed at soldiers’ eyeline, eliminating the need for maps or tablets.
Reality:
A similar technology, seismic prospecting, has been used in oil exploration, where a vibration source truck sends seismic signals downward to analyze and locate new oil resource sites [6].
Drone
A surveillance drone with a camera that uses a remote controller, which is almost the same as modern drones we have in real life except for one additional feature. Just like a boomer, a drone is connected to the MASS system. The view can be virtually displayed directly at soldiers’ eyeline, eliminating the need for a tablet.
Memory Erase
The Mass Implant is able to erase selected memories of its user. E.g. Stripe does not have the memory of his conversion with the military before he got an implant.
Reality:
Deep brain stimulation (DBS) is a neurosurgical procedure that uses a brain-implant neurotransmitter to send electrical pulses to the brain. This technology is used to treat disease that involves brain damage. DBS was approved by the FDA in 1996 to treat Parkinson Disease [7].
"Flashlight"
It is a counter internal chip developed by “roaches” through reverse engineering from drone parts. The light transmits a code that burrows into the Mass system and shut it down from within.
