10 Years ago, post-war, the government conducted a mass DNA screening and registration. 

Mass Implant was likely invented around the DNA screening process.

With Mass implants, the military orders soldiers to kill “roaches.” The massacre started.

The “flashlight” was likely developed after the Mass implant was put into widespread use.

6 months ago, (from the start of the movie) Stripe signed up for the military and used his thumb print on a scanner to convey consent for Mass Implant.

First scene in the show, after getting the Mass implant, Stripe went on a “roach” hunt in a small village for the first time, killing two “roaches.” Stripe encountered the "flashlight", a device used on him by the "roaches".

Stripe begins having strange glitches in his MASS, prompting his commanding officer to send him to medical.

Two days later, Stripe’s Mass diagnostic passed, and no problem was found by the doctor or the psychologist.

Stripe is returned to active duty.

Several days later, on another mission, Stripe notes that he could smell grass and that he hadn't noticed these senses before.

The mission proceeds and Stripe starts to see “roaches” as normal human beings. Prompting a physical confrontation with his squad mate.

Stripe overcomes his squad mate, he then helped the female "roach" and her kid escape. Stripe is told the truth of roaches by a roach.

His squad mate tracks them and kills the roaches. Stripe is knocked out and taken back to the base.

Stripe is placed in an isolation room due to his knowledge of the secrets about Mass implants. Upon refusing to get a system reset, he is forcefully shown the replay of him killing “roaches” without system filters, Stripe has a visceral reaction to this.

After Stripe was forced to get his Mass reset, he is sent home as a decorated soldier, he is shown to still have the MASS implant and is being fed a new, nicer reality through it. He is completely unable to see the truth of his surroundings.
